Bei uns wurde dieses Jahr WebCT für viele Kurse eröffnet. Das beinhaltet praktischerweise schon ein Forum - mit den zugehörigen Professoren. Deswegen dürfte der Andrang für ein extra Forum dann wohl doch nicht so hoch sein.

Indeed there is a totally different situation in Germany and the United States. In the states, many old web sites covering basic knowledge. These pages have been designed by professors with little knowledge how to install a discussion board.

The general problem is, that these sites build some kind of a spam link system, so they are clearly ranked better in search engines than new projects based on new technologies (discussion boards etc)...
which are run by students or chemistry-interested people.

I think it is a good idea, that chemiestudent supports chemical-forums by linking and vice versa. It's better than to run a totally new forum.

By the way: I have started four years ago fighting old chemistry sites in the internet. I am running two projects: one in german and one in english (although my english is really worse, but I have a translator in Newark, Delaware). The situation in germany is indeed more competitive than in the States. I am wondering why... But running a chemistry discussion board is for chemistry webmasters the minimum here... But the other way round, many german Profs do not like to deal with internet projects... So young web masters have a real chance to bring their projects on the top (but "chemie.de" can never be reached).

I have decided not to run a discussion board, because I cannot spend too much time with admin work... Or I am too stupid to install a database and a CMS... Nowadays, I have the feeling, that good content is the most important reason, that people visit a page. This can be a discussion board with interesting topics or a page which is updated on a daily basis. (So I have only time to bother about daily updates).
